Spot Food with Foodspotting!
I’m slow to catch onto this and surprised myself that I didn’t know much about Foodspotting. But now that I’m in San Francisco, it feels like where food and technology meet and it feel pretty natural. It wasn’t until I met Alexa, the founder and CEO, and looked it up. It’s a great way to search for the type of food you want without knowing the restaurant or...

Help block the Dirty Water Act of 2011 (HR 2018) →
The Clean Water Cooperative Federalism Act would gut the Clean Water Act by giving the states, rather than the EPA, the ultimate decision-making authority over our nation’s water quality standards. This would spell disaster in states where mountaintop removal coal mining is practiced, as seen by the states’ abysmal record on permitting and enforcement.
In Kentucky and West Virginia alone,...

An interview with author Jonathan Safran Foer
I just read this article in Design Mind magazine produced by Frog Design. What does design and food have to do with one another? Well a lot. Food is not only the actual food we consume, but part of a larger network that plans, grows, works, harvest, raises and kills animals. We are part of this interconnected system and very much depend on it too.

Europe's 2050 Roadmap
Europe’s goal is to become carbon emission zero by 2050. Although they created an impressive document, they also use some design to better illustrate the environmental impact if we delay action.

The winning team, who consisted of three high school girls, came together and built a solar-powered cell phone charger from recycled materials, specifically 30 secondhand aluminum transistors they collected. These young girls came up with creative solutions to lower their electronic waste and ...

Bamboo Cutlery →
A friend forwarded this to me as we both have individual sets of bamboo utensils that we bring to school for our meals, but these are definitely a step up. They look fun and are lightweight, reusable and sets made from 100% organic food-safe bamboo. Definite like!

The Air We Breathe Exhibition
My boyfriend and I entered ‘The Air We Breathe’ competition in Chicago, which will exhibit the winners and feature all the participants this Friday. The challenge was to come up with solutions to get the awareness about the issue and also make change happen. Our idea was simple and focused around making immediate change with policy makers. We wanted to encourage Chicago Aldermen to...

Against Obsolescence
I came across this video and the company, Vitsoe, and fell in love with their mission as well as their design. Make quality items and buy less things. This is very much tied to the design ethos of Dieter Rams and his quality of work that is designed to last a very long time. It also reminded me of all the things I do have and do not need to buy. It’s hard to pass up on...
